The Role of Platelet Count in Intracranial Hemorrhage
The vast majority of groups that study this disorder will agree that it's somewhere around one in 800 or one in a thousand pregnancies is affected with NAIT. There are some other antigens that couples can be incompatible for that antibodies are made against also that can do this. The obvious best choice if they're available would be a platelet you have on the shelf that's ABO compatible with the child and is HPA1BB so that the mother's antibodies don't continue to destroy those platelets when they're transfused. Another option is that some people don't think about is to use the mother's platelets after delivery but I've seen it happen multiple times.
