Having a kid does that, I think intrinsically because prior to having children, you really are at the very least entirely capable of only thinking about yourself constantly. But then you have a kid, there is suddenly somebody who is more important than you are. There's something really ironic, honestly, about getting nominated for an Academy Award because if the actual John Giving saw that happen, he'd be like, well, that's horseshit. This guy's an idiot and then these awards are stupid.
