Mental illness categories are not objective biological facts that we often consider them to be. They're a diagnostic categories that have emerged and disappeared throughout history. The line between madness and sanity is very porous, it's not a hard line. We may say that the systems are relics of the past, but they're still very much kind of ongoing in their function.
