The Chinese Government Wants to Promote Potatoes as a Staple Food

China is the world's largest potato planting country and produces about 20% of the world's potato output. Fresh potatoes are a traditional part of China's national diet but when it comes to their use as a staple, they've been dwarfed by rice, wheat and maize or corn. Concerns over food security are one of the main reasons behind China's decision to start pushing people to eat more potatoes.
