So make sure that you can set up for the dead lift properly. Make sure that your hamstrings aren't too tight to allow you to get into that flat back,. If you can feel solid before you pull, then you are ready to go. i would also recommend to not take this exercise, not take the dead lift to failure - one or two sets shy of that.
