The Second Messenian War
The Second Messenian War took place in the middle of the 7th century BC. Spartan Argos and Laconia were bitter enemies throughout their history. The two kings charged with prosecuting the war were the Aggiad king Yuri Kratis, the son of Polydoris, who ruled from around 665 to 640 BC., and the Yuri Paunted King Anax Andridis, the first,. He was assassinated before his proposal could be implemented. Airstomene's fought so well that he was made the new king of Messenia by his people. This forced the Spartans to request aid from Delphi, where they were told to gain a leader from Athens. T
