What's Behind Long Covid?
Early on in the pendemic, it became clear that severe cases of cove 19 could lead to symptoms such as stroke or or muscle weakness. Some nerve scientists theorized that it was because the virus itself might be attacking cells in the brain. We know that other viruses such as h i v and herpes are able to do this,. And a direct attack might explain the rapid onset of some symptoms that we see. But emerging picture suggests that while the virus can get into the brain, it doesn't seem to replicate there or to be damaging brain tissue directly.
