Bridging: A Different Approach to Productive Failure
Bridging seems to be about addressing and getting misconceptions almost out of kid's systems early on if I've understood Mark correctly. This in a way seems kind of related to cognitive conflicts. But again bridging seems different to this as well. As I say it's almost like a cleansing technique. It's like let's get all the misconceptions out, no that's wrong,. No that's wrong, that's wrong... And then here's the right way of doing it. The evidence for productive failure is mixed but there's a lot of papers suggesting it works particularly well with motivated, higher-paying students. We don't think we can undervalue the importance of a routine over an exercise
