Four screenwriters and the actors who have joined them on the picket lines this is a dispute about what are known as residuals. Both writers and actors have always been paid some money up front but have typically relied on residuals to get by. Those residual checks have shrunk to ridiculously at times comically low levels. As an actor I've gotten residual checks from streaming shows that were 12 cents. And where do these studios find a way to pay for mega millions of dollar episodes? They take it out of our paychecks, the artists, the writers and the actorswho bring them to life.
