Cone Cells Are Good for Focusing Up Close
Cone cells are for color vision, so that they're good at sensing color and detecting fast changes in scenes. Rod cells just tell you brightness. They're not great at things that change quickly. The perception of the things around you is actly all down to one molecule called retinel. It takes energy to bounce between these two different stable shapes.
