I Love Perennial Cover Plants
Perennial cover plants can pump carbon into the soil, feeding bacteria and fungi. Plant roots don't have to expend any energy in order to grow or push their way through the soil. Pesticides kill just the target organism that kills massive amounts more of your beneficial organisms than those killed by fertilizers. The root systems need to go down very, very deep so there's no obstruction for plant roots.
