Introduction

Mankind has speculated about the afterlife since the dawn of civilization. In Duarte, the Egyptian underworld, the hearts of the dead were weighed against a feather. If the heart was found lighter or equal in weight, it symbolized that the deceased led a life of virtue and would go on to paradise. For the ancient Greeks, the land of the dead was known as Hades, who was also the Greek god of the underworld.
