Maria is essentially like a final girl. She's very pure, wholesome and ultimately prevails. Her sister may be slightly more sexually liberated but not without fault. They're initially complicit in the crimes of the lead evil girl then become her victims. It's deftly a very similar relationship that where initially they’re both side kick turned victim.
