CHAPTER

The History of Assimilation

The idea of assimilation in the 19th century was that. inferior races could be impressed upon and contoured by dominant races. William H. Ferris says this is an artificial distinction because every culture imitates. The Black person comes to America to take from the European what they've gotten wrong in terms of knowledge, morality and ethics. So ultimately his view of history should get people thinking about what Europeans are like who don't have a sense of humor or compassion for others.
