The Unification of Italy in the 19th Century

In totalitarian states, people have to substitute something for their old identities. In the 19th century and into the 20th, they were creating something that did not exist. That is a revolution that's not conservative. And I think classical liberalism and traditional conservatism both ought to find nationalism a really troubling idea.
