The Art of Courtly Love
Court of love ruled that the young woman had indeed lost her lover when he became her husband. This ruling was preserved in a twelfth century book titled tractatus de amore by andreus capalanus. Many of these judgments were credited to eleanor of aquitaine herself, or to her daughter, the princess marie. In this tradition, noble women were placed on a pedestal as immaculate creat s who must be impressed through acts of courtesy, bravery and devotion so that they might freely give their affection to a potential suitor.
