The Rats Are Not Trying to Help Each Other
The rat opens the door, even though that means putting itself in a vulnerable position. It makes a deliberate, concerted effort to save its fellow rodent,. Even if they're a stranger. So these rats really do appear to be fundamentally driven to help each other. They show ampathy despite having no personal reward. Essentially, as mammals, we are motivated to alleviate the distress of others. We are motivated, by the distress ofOthers to do something that is other oriented.
