Ovid's exile was a bit unusual, wasn't it? Because his wife stays in rome. So he's both sort of still roman and not roman at all. And finds where he is, hen barbaric, as you say, the centre of war. He's like an epic hero em - trying to find his way through the wars back to his homeland. Part of his problem is that there's also something very mythical about him.
