Social Media Platforms - Should They Be Protected or Held Accountable?

The Supreme Court will hear a case challenging the legal shield for social media platforms in section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. The question is whether some of the world's most powerful companies should be protected as neutral forms for speech or held accountable for their content. Jack Dorsey then CEO of Twitter testified along with the CEOs of Facebook and Google about the importance of section 230 on Capitol Hill last year. Removing section 230 will remove speech from the Internet, says Professor Harold Crent of the Chicago Kent College of Law.
