The Effects of Alcohol on Sexual Desire

The dopamine boost provided by alcohol directly increases sexual desire in both males and females from fruit flies to humans. Ironically, it's depressant effect simultaneously and notoriously impairs actual sexual performance. But if what it's doing psychologically is reducing your inhibitions, making you more outgoing... that could counteract the negative physiological effects of drinking. The really important functions of alcohol come in, in my view, not at the individual level, but at the social level.
