The Trump Administration's Plan to End the Coronavirus Public Health Emergency
The coronavirus public health emergency expires on May 11th. This authority known as title 42 ends what it has allowed authorities to do up until this point is expel certain migrants back into Mexico or to their origin country. With this going away there is concern within the administration that there is going to be a surge at the border. They're opening regional processing centers for migrants who are currently coming up to the US-Mexico border so that they can apply for legal pathways.
