The Civil Disconnect Between Americans and the Armed Service
In 1970, the percentage of women in the military was just 1%. And that has been steadily clicking up. The majority of recruits tend to come from the same states and regions year after year. There is a large disconnect because at any one time, fewer than 1% of the country serves in the military.
