The Origins of the Underwater Demolition Unit

He's looked upon as the father of underwater demolition. And he's refused to be in the US Navy, but he's in. He's actually in the Royal Navy when he initially is now. Because he couldn't get a commission in the US navy because of his eyesight. When he's brought in and he's starting this underwater demolition unit, I'm not right. It's not initially an underwater demolition unit. Is he tasked with trying to work out the German beach defenses and then they formed the unit? Is that chronology of it?
