The Four Imams and the Ussul
The four established schools of thought either explicitly or implicitly use makasid as an idea when deriving haqum shari. Imam Malik appeared to be the foremost of the four imams in considering the objectives of the law and baking them into his ussul. I want to move on to an area of Makasid that's maybe misunderstood or maybe correctly understood, which is the area about benefit and harm. So first question is, is benefit really the same thing as convenience? You know, is there a misunderstanding between what benefit is?" And the second part of that question is trying to understand what are the contours of benefit and harm as applicable to both individuals and society.
