The Importance of Questioning in Math Lessons
The study looked at math lessons in Germany, America and Japan. It found that all three countries asked lots of short answer questions. But American teachers were more likely to ask yes or no questions about the students' answers. Japanese teachers are more likely to be asking questions that require an explanation. And so through the question and really getting students to think deeply is one way they encourage thinking.
