I Don't Like the Word Adoptionist
The New Testament teaches that the earliest Christology was adoptionistic. The Ebionites are a group that we know only through some of their critics, and I think the critics may not always been the most well informed or always given a fair hearing. But they seem to be a Jewish Christian group of some sort that believed that Jesus was inhabited by a divine power like an angel came into him.
