What's the State of the Tropical Rainforest?
The three largest tropical rainforests are the Amazon, those of Papua New Guinea and those of the Congo Basin. In some other countries, like Sarawak, the rainforest is 95% gone - but that's a very serious problem. A Brazilian academic called Carlos Norbre produced a study which showed that when the Amazon gets the point where it's lost 40% of its original area, it will turn into dry savanna. It won't be rainforest at all. And we're about five or six years from that point, apparently.
