Timothy Stanley: Gregory was deeply influenced by Origen's homilies on Ezekiel. He says that image of Scripture growing with its reader comes right out of the confessions, book three. Stanley: But there's also a very deep Augustinian current to his thought. "We have to make ourselves small in order to conform ourselves to the humility of our Lord," he says.
