Caffeine has a half life of three on the high side. So that's how much time it takes for half of that dose to leave your body. If you wouldn't have two cups of coffee at 10 p.m., you shouldn't have an energy drink or a coffee with 300 milligrams at 3. That's just how long it takes caffeine to left your body. The placebo effect is right away, but it takes like 20 minutes to kick in because it does not cross the blood-brain barrier.
