The National Liberation Front and the Algerian Revolution

Jordan Harbinger: Fake news has real relevance for Middle East politics. The National Liberation Front came to power in 1962 when President De Gaulle of France signed the Evian Accords, ending the French presence in the country. They created a similar style secularizing modernizing one party dictatorial state for Algeria. Because the country had the income from oil and gas, it was able to modernize in a big way throughout the 60s and 70s.
