"I just for the moment I got the script and saw a fat black queer, intelligent protagonist like on the musical theater stage," she says. "It was like, well, those moments are always like, if I don't do this, then I have to get a new profession because this is the most perfect thing in the entire world" She adds that being a musical made it so much harder because of its complex nature. "[A] Pulitzer prize winning piece of work ... It's just because it's confrontational and complex."
