The federal government spends $4.2 trillion a year, or about $11 billion a day. The money is supposed to run out on October 19th this year. Ant and I first started thinking about tax freedom day when we realized that they have to work a third of the year before they get to keep any of the money they earn. We decided to apply the same sort of logic to another problem - the federal deficit.
