How Did Joyce Carol Oates Get Into Teaching?

Joyce Carol Oates has been teaching creative writing for more than 50 years. She compares her approach in the classroom to boxing, a sport that she loves and devoted a whole book to you called on boxing. Her answers surprised me and at times she seemed to struggle to put into words why she has kept teaching all these years.
