The Challenges of Protecting the Javari Valley
The Javari Valley is a hotspot for illegal logging, poachers and cocaine smugglers. Gold miners spread mercury in all the rivers; loggers cut everything down selectively so farmers can provide for their cattle. Drug traffickers use this land as a route between a very complicated region which is called the Triborder. It's one of the most remote areas of the world because everything is far away. The challenges are somewhat always evident when it comes to project implementation.
