A broken bottle left in the wood might be stepped on by a child today. We shouldn't value future people any less than current people, says Lord Willitz. The way we've lived means we're going to be responsible for about 700 tons of carbon dioxide emitted in our lives. In order to hold global warming down it's estimated that children born today will need to produce up to 100 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year. That is a massive adjustment which has led young boomers to expect more from their younger generations. And I think it's much more powerful if we have obligations to go further and take into account what happens beyond this generation.
