Most western philosophers fall into two broadly defined camps, theism or reductive materialism. The stoics disagreed with both of these metaphysical assumptions about the nature of the cosmos. They postulates a philosophical god who was imminent rather than transcendent. And they concluded that there must be a rational guiding force within nature.
