The PK of Bicarbonate Buffers Is 6.1

The PK of this equation is 6.1 and buffers work best when the PK is closest to your physiologic pH. It's an open system and your PCO2 doesn't accumulate when you use bicarbonate buffers. The metabolism of carbohydrates and fats in our diet generates 15,000 millimoles of CO2 per day or just this massive amount. While metabolism of proteins and other ingested acids is only about 50 to 100Millimoles of hydrogen a day.
