The real thing where I see people mess it up is your body has to come off the ground as a single unit. Some people think that's annoying and dumb because their score went down because they reduced to going super wide. So, on pushups and on bench press you can shorten the range of motion by putting your hands really wide. And that doesn't translate to real life very well. There are not a lot of situations where you're going to push on something with your hands really far apart.
