The Purification of the Dead
The church gives the name purgatory to that final purification of the elect, which is entirely different from the punishment of the damned. The state of definitive self exclusion from communion with God and the blessed is called hell. We cannot love God if we sin gravely against Him, against our neighbor or against ourselves. Our love isn't true enough for heaven. Then we'll talk about that in a sec.
