There are already something like 2.5 billion location points on there from over a thousand different species. The hope is that the Internet of Animals would be a way for us to connect with, you know, the non-human world in a more fruitful way. As more scientists tack, more animals will get more real-time tracking data. And those tracks will kind of fill out and get more intricate and layered.
As part of a massive new global tracking project, scientists are monitoring animals from a receiver on the International Space Station, mapping the incredible, previously unknown journeys that animals undertake. They’re beginning to tackle questions like how far do animals actually move? And how in the world do they know where they’re going?
