The most simple is the probability of something happening. Threat times vulnerability equals risk, which means that if you can do away with all the threats in your life, your risk is zero. It's when they both go up that suddenly we buy insurance or we start to prepare ourselves and whatnot. I really think it's more accurately portrayed as a mathematical equation.
