The Importance of Shiraz in Philosophy

Shiraz is an old city, continuously inhabited since the time of the pre-Islamic Sasanians. It survived the Mongols largely unscathed because its rulers prudently offered to submit to Mongol rule rather than resisting. In keeping with this, Shiraz has produced philosophers about standing vintage and grapes for Shiraz wine. The Madrasas of Shiraz had been a hotbed of philosophical activity for several centuries.
