The Origins of Big History
The first big history course wasn't taught at Macquarie University in Sydney until 1989. But during the 1980s, you were reading widely and had this idea of big history in your head. I remember literally sitting down with a piece of paper and thinking, okay, let me just brainstorm. And so I immediately thought we're going to have to go back 200,000 years because that was roughly speaking the best date for the first humans. So then I suddenly realized that I'm moving beyond the history discipline. I'm moving outside of my discipline, I'm going to has to talk biology.
