"You can, to some extent, not care what people think and still not like yourself," she says. "This is the story that actually sold the book." The question of why can't i have that in my own life stemmed from a childhood experience where I felt there was something missing. She writes about being told by her aunt at age 8 or 9: "I need to stay because that's how it had been in past experiences"
