The Disadvantages of Late Fees in Libraries
The library in San Francisco following in the wake of a number of other California libraries and presumably libraries across the country is doing the way with late fees. They say, quote, overdue fines restrict access and exacerbate inequality by disproportionately affecting low income and racial minority communities. If I lived next to that library, I could fill my own personal library. Just check out books and leave them at home. You would pay exactly no price for doing so.
