What Is Single System Thinking in Permaculture?

The idea of permaculture, at least as advanced by Mullison in his 1978 book Permaculture One, is this, it's a kind of beautiful idea. It's the idea that you can watch closely, over time, how the system already works. And if you do that, you can find ways to help it work for you without breaking the whole crazy Rube Goldberg-esque mouse trap that is every ecosystem. A permaculture practitioner takes pieces of organic farming, biochemistry, meteorology and agroforestry into a seamless narrative.
