The Microbes on the Tongue Help Control Blood Pressure
The tongue is a very rich source of microbes and they live in these structured communities called biofilms. There's some evidence that the tongue will take the nitrates that are in plants and turn it into nitrite, which can be used to make nitric acid - something that helps control blood pressure. It turns out it's very difficult to study the tongue because you can't see it.
