Was There a Positive Side to All This Wealth During the Gilded Age?
The gilded age was a time of terrible financial disparity. It ushered in the progressive era after the turn of the century, certainly with roosevelt and many many reforms that happened then. One of the greatest moments, which is interesting, some people actually say might have been the grand finale of the gilded age. The famous bradley martin ball in 18 97 cost about ten million dollars to day's money. There were balls for 400 and dinners with expensive duck and terrapin. And stories of diamond dog collars and hundred dollar bills used as rolling papers for cigarettes.
