The Importance of Brahmins

Jinar: Brahmins can be seen on the one hand as the intelligentsia and every culture has them. The difficulty of the Indian cases is that it's explicitly endogamous, it's explicitly by birth. So what's was an informal class division in Europe, for instance, becomes a formal caste division in India. Jinar: What starts off as something elite, philosophical practice, becomes the underpinning for people and characters throughout Indian history to be able to assert equality in the face of inequality.
