What Did We Deter in Ukraine?

In a very real sense, i think would it be fair to say deterrente? We failed to deter puten from invading. So there was a deterrence ure. I don't mean this till i score a cheap point. That's something we should study. And part of what i am sceptical of the concept is that if it is used to suggest that we can rely on non military tools in order to deter uncoupled from a credible military threat then we'll have further deterrence failures.
